Name That Tune!

Postby Herculean Platypus! » Mon Jul 02, 2007 11:22 pm

Okay, the movie quote game is too rough for me- time for a little shifting of gears- let's try songs instead! :)

I'll give out a lyric from a tune, and anyone interested can try to name the song. (Bonus points for naming the band as well.)

Here goes:

"Think of the tender things that we were working on..."

Good Luck!

I know I've heard that before but I can't pin it for the life of me. Anyone else care to give a shot at HP's song?

HP is there any thing else about this game people should know? Like how the next song for guessing gets posted? Is it like the movie game or do you have some thing else in mind?

Once someone guesses the song, they can post their own- much like the movie game. :)

Here's a hint for mine: think 80's tunes!

Here's another partial lyric:

"...as you walk on by, when you call my name..."

(I was inspired by this from remembering an old e-mail which had a hundred lines of lyrics from assorted 80's tunes- the only catch was that there were NO answers at all- which drove a lot of people nuts!) [upside]

Of course, no one is limited to 80's tunes- any decade is good for this game- although I will admit anything newer than 10 years is going to leave me perplexed...
[schock] ;)

I'm having this topic pinned  . This area of the forum has topics move by faster than the sci fi & fantasy area.

Oh Oh!!! I think I know this one

Is it "Don't you forget about me" by..........

please remind me!!!

I am a HUGE 80'S music fan, however mostly Austrlaian 80's stuff. If anybody quotes any lyrics from anything but the 80's I'll have no chance.

(Later Edit:)
PS I just read what HP wrote about not knowing anyting newer than 10 years.... I hear ya Mate!!!!

If the above is classed as a win, please let me know cause i'll post some lyrics for you to guess

In the meantime, here is a link the a classic aussie song from the 80's, its quite significant as the the bald bloke gyrating out the front of the band like a an epileptic chicken is just recently been elected as a Federal Minister (in other words, this man could potentially run our country, although he's currently in charge of Environmental matters)

Try this one:

"I hread my voice call out your name"

if thats too tricky then i'll post some more lyrics. Should be a pretty easy one.

I'll give it to you, you got the song title!

(The band is Simple Minds, by the way.)

Oh, and I didn't even have to click the link to know you were referring to Midnight Oil! I have four of their CDs!

(I'm still working on your own quote, it does sound familiar...)

I'm sorry I didn't see this question earlier- I keep thinking the "name that tune" thread is dormant!

I first heard "Beds are Burning" and "Blue Sky Mine" on the radio, and added those two songs to my mix tape collection (remember THOSE?) many years ago.

It was in 1993 that I really got a chance to explore the Blue Sky Mining album, as a buddy of mine had it when we went on a road trip to Montana. Great music to go along with breathtaking scenery...

Whenever I hear that CD, I always associate it with my road trip memories...

I have their "Breathe", "Diesel and Dust" and "Red Sails in the Sunset" CDs.

As far as other Australian bands go, the only other one I recall is Men at Work, 'cause I love those 80's tunes!

Yes i listened to a Cold Chisel tape al the way around Europe in 1993, so whenever i listen to them (which I do all the time) it reminds me of all the places in Europe

If you love 80's music then there is a whole horde of Australian bands that had fantastic 80's stuff, in particular Cold Chisel, Crowded House. Check them out on You Tube if you get the chance, I'm sure you'd love their music

Now any chance anyone knows the answer to my "Name That Tune" questions!!!!
