Sounds like that comic store sucked.

And about Manifest Desting and WoT, well, that was originally never supposed to have happened. In early 1996, the 2099 line's creator and EiC, Joey Cavalieri, was going to have the current titles cancelled, then have the saga continued in 2101 with two new series: Spider-Man 2101 and X-Men 2101. Doom in his book was back in the present, using crab venom on the present-day Latverians so they're decendants in 2099 wouldn't die from the sludge Herod had poured on them in 2099 at the forced ene of Doom's presidency. He would have been stopped, tried to jump back to 2099, but would've overshot and come to 2101. However, this is at the time when Marvel was forced to declare bankruptcy, and there was a One Nation Under Doom video game in the works (storyline named for Doom's forced American Presidency), which 2101 would've hindered, so Cavalieri was fired. Most of the 2099 staff respected Cavalieri, and walked out. However, this didn't work, and Marvel had Ben Raab finish off all the books instead, and have them lead into WoT, which was followed by Manifest Destiny a year and a half later. MD was actually written by the writer of Ghost Rider 2099, under Cavalieri, back in the day, and concluded the 2099 saga in a good way, despite the crappy events in WoT.

It should also be noted that, when the project was under Cavalieri, it was the definate future of Marvel Earth-616, but when he was fired, it eventually became Earth-928. And Cavalier's team never had any ideas for an Avengers 2099 series, AFAIK. If you need more help understanding 2099, just LMK.

If you need help with mugen, simply go to any forum for asking those questions, and I'm sure someone there will help you. They can help you learn how to work mugen, what programs you need to download and run the games, and all that.

Thanks for that explanation on what happened with the 2099 titles :D . When that story line happened in Doom it never hit me there was an alternate way it could have ended. The other day when you introduced me to UGR I tried to check out a few links that sadly aren't active any more. The main curiosity one being what you just posted about. Even though you said UGR steers away from going at what happened in WoT, WoT ended very open ended. What happened with Ghost Rider in the end for one really should have been resolved some how :? .

As for asking on the board, I checked out some of the videos of game play on YouTube and emailed one of the people who did them with the playing file type question. If they don't get back to me, I will post.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened to "The Driver's" links. They were links to past posts of his on the board that answered a lot of old 2099 questions. Doesn't make sense for them to have disappeared like that. The current mod is looking into it.

And while what became of GR 2099 at the end of WoT is a good mystery, 2099-fans (me included) still think the series sucked and was a slap in the face, and steered the stories away from how they were meant to be under Cavalieri, meaning superheroes vs. mega-corporations. UGR just continues the stories from right before they would've gone to Wot-related stuff, and instead maintains kinds of stories that could have been done (still in 2099, though).

And your last paragraph, you're talking about mugen again, right?

Ya, I was talking about the game engine.

I'm with the other fans about WoT, that the ending sucked major and I'm counting Manifest Destiny to that note also. It's just I'd hoping some one cared to write fan fic that would have tied up the open ends with WoT.

That bit you bought up about the "superheroes vs. mega-corporations" ..guess my reading wasn't much in the right place. I tend to think about Ravage 2099 with that but that's only because I have the early issues. I'll have to grab out my Marvel long box to confirm this since I haven't read the book in ages. But late into Spider-Man I think I remember reading Miguel O'Hara running Alchemax instead of Tyler Stone? Yah, I know that doesn't sound right.

Yes, during the One Nation Under Doom storyline, where Doom 2099 conquered America and made himself President, Doom promoted Tyler Stone to some other job, and Tyler offered Miguel his old job at Alchemax. IIRC, he eventually accepted, then in Doom's book, Doom got into a brawl with Avatarr (Alchemax CEO), and killed him. Miguel then got promoted to CEO in his series. After President Doom got kicked out by Herod, Tyler wanted his old job back (meaning now he'd be CEO), but Miguel wouldn't give it to him, as Mig wanted to do good with it.

And, when 2099 was run under Cavalieri, the whole "mega-corporations" fight-thing was a story-type called "cyberpunk." Just FYI.

And like I said, WoT didn't stay true-to-form with how 2099 is supposed to be, so why continue from it? I think there is at least one fanfic group that does, not the UGR. You could probably find it on the heroesfanfic Yahoo Group.
